In Korea they really do look down on people who do menial jobs. When I was teaching English there I told my students and staff that my first job was cleaning motel rooms. I did that in college for a few summers. I was told by someone not to tell people that. They think of a job as a career only, not just something to make money. They also were talking bad about me just because they thought I did cleaning as a "career" for a while.
I do wish Korea allowed older kids to get adopted. At least until age 10 or so. They don't do that anymore and they have thousands of kids in their children's homes.
