Our HS is approved as of Monday! I am already going a little crazy checking my e-mail, and looking at adoption photolisting, and the Heart Galleries. We are looking for a child, boy or girl, between infant and age 7, with only mild special needs. We are considering sibling groups of up to 3 as well.
I have already inquired about a few kids, and they are all already matched. That's great for them, but I am already frustrated that I haven't found our kids yet you know?
Because we don't know what we will be matched with, we can't "nest". Any ideas as to how we can prepare, or what to do while we wait?

We have our approved homestudy as well, and our caseworker said it is about a 2 year wait for a younger child. We are willing to adopt a child older than you guys, and we are not getting anywhere either. I spoke to a caseworker the other day from another state and she said it usually takes them 1-2 months to go through the homestudies and make a decision about the final families to choose from. :grr: It is absolutely amazing how long it takes to get through this process. And it seems like Florida is even slower than the others. I wish you all the luck in your search! Just keep trying! Your little one is out there somewhere! :)

I spent a lot of time before (and between, and during) placements reading books. At first I read adoption/foster care books, then later books about parenting, psychological disorders, normal child development stages, attachment, brain science, education, etc. Just whatever seemed interesting, a lot of times the book I was reading would recommend other books. I also liked listening to audio parenting books during my commute.
I used to live in Florida but we did not start the adoption process until we moved to Oklahoma (last year). Our homestudy was approved last month and I asked to look at "the book". It was filled with two to three hundred children from all over the state ready for adoption.
We wrote down the names of the children we were interested in and gave it to our caseworker. She then submitted our homestudy to those caseworkers. She said it takes about 30 days to find out whether they saw us as a good fit or not.
See if you too can look through "the book". It's filled with pictures and short bio's.
