I am on the final part of our home study corrections. When we bought new door knobs for our front & back door... we didn't realize they weren't acceptable for foster care due to fire hazards.
Basically, we need a front door knob that you can lock from the inside with a button, but if you turn the knob, the lock will automatically open... but the outdoor part of the lock, needs to only unlock with a key. Our problem is that you have to turn the button on the knob from lock to unlock...and that is not acceptable.
I guess I don't know how to find the right set. I have been looking online and the wording is just not jumping out at me.
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.
Go to your local hardware store or someplace like Lowe's and just explain to the person what you are looking for. I've given some pretty vague explanations in the past and always had someone figure out what I need (even if they might be laughing at me afterwards a bit).

Hello! I ran across your thread and may have a solution. Could you use a multi-access door lock? For instance the 1TouchIQ2 lock will lock automatically and unlocks if you use a key, code, or fingerprint. There is also a Deadbolt version that locks with a push of a button. One of those could be helpful.
Are you working with an agency? Our agency had a licensing coordinator and when we had issues finding the right lock to meet a requirement, we emailed her and she sent us several online links to options. It was clearly a question she got often and had a prepared answer for.
We needed something different than what you are looking for, so sorry I can't help with the specifics!
