We had our homestudy visit this week. The last one is next Friday. The social worker is brand new and we are her first case so the founder of the agency is working with her. They were both so wonderful. At the end the founder told us that he never says this but we are going to have no problems getting a placement quickly. He said with all of our experience parenting a special needs child and the community work with children we have done, that the placements will be coming in fast and we will have to weed through to find the right one. They also said that we will be licensed on Feb 25th...just have to do the last class on the 23rd...and can look at the books that day. We are so excited to hear that it could go quickly. My husband and I were afraid that having an autistic child in the home would make the workers not want to place with us but he said it is definately a strength not a weakness. I am hoping to have another little boy in the house by the end of the school year! We are licensing for 0-7 but age 3 or 4 would be ideal!
Congrats on your homestudy! I hope everything goes and scheduled and planned. Are you guys focusing on children with special needs?

We thought about finding a child with autism since we know we could make a dfference in their lives. But after a lot of discussion with each other, our 2 teenage daughters, and our family we have decided not to take special needs. With the exception of the trauma you would expect a child in foster care to have as well as some mild speech delays. We are in a good place right now with our family and we are happy but we know that having another child with special needs would be more than we can handle right now. So we will be looking for a single boy, any race, between 2 and 7. We would prefer a 3 or 4 year old:)
That's great that you know your family's needs and what you guys can handle. I wish you the best of luck on your journey.
