Right now my former foster daughter "M" (15 Y.O.) is in a group home/rehab and has a probation officer instead of a cps worker. (We had M in our home for 2 years and were wanting to adopt her when her mother almost signed over her rights back then. But she changed her mind when she found out we wanted to adopt her. Long story short, the judge sent her home to mom against the recommendation of cps, therapists and even mom's pshyciatrist. After M went home her mother would not let her talk to or visit us, it broke our hears. M started to smoke weed which led to other more serious drug use. ) We have been talking on the phone every day and have had a few visits. Her mom has signed over her rights and M wants us to finally adopt her so she can belong to our family. I have spoke to a state adoption worker about M and she is going to ask CPS if the probation officer can make the adoption referral for M so we can get the process started. I want her to have permanancy and not age out in the system. I have a relationship with her old cps worker but don't want to cross the lines by going straight and talking to her about it. Who should I contact? The probation officer who has her case right now or her old cps worker???

Although I don't have the perfect answer, because I have never dealt with anything like this, I would make this suggestion. Start by contacting her old cps worker because she can either help you or knows who can help you. If on the off chance she doesn't provide much help then I would contact the probation officer. "M" can also talk to her probation officer about how she wants you guys to adopt her. This could lead to more help from everyone else to get you guys going in the right direction.
Good luck!
