Hello everyone,
I am doing low-legal risk adoption and part of the process is some type of credit check. I have a good score, but I am wondering how much can they see? Every single one of my student loans? (There are a lot of them!)The exact amount charged on my credit cards?
Like I said, my husband and I BOTH have good credit, but I feel so invaded and I'm afraid that cc debt or student loans would make them turn me down.
Anyone BTDT? Especially in NC?
Thanks!
we are in NC and they didn't do a credit check on us so i don't know what to tell you. we just had to fill out paperwork showing our income and our bills.

We're in CA and we had to provide our latest tax return, our monthly expenses and our last couple of bank statement. Although they did not ask for a copy of my credit reports, I did have to get one to find all the my addresses for the past 10 yrs. Seriously, I forgot my addresses the yr 9 and yr 10.LOL

It is amazing how each State/county/agency does things different. We had to fill out a worksheet showing every single source of incoming monthly $, and every single source of outgoing monthly $, and they will soon do a credit check.

LOL! I hear ya on that!!
I'm in NC, with a county, no credit check. They just wanted us to be sure we could pay the bills without depending on board payments. We've never had to prove it, even though we obviously could. My credit is horrible, so I'm glad they didn't check, geez.

It really is very awkward to have your credit checked to build your family.........and I thought getting my home loan was invasive, sheesh.
I had to do the last 7 years and I wracked my brain!! During that time, I moved alot!

Gosh, I would hate that. DH and I are in the low 8's but I'd still not like it. We have debt we are working on paying off. Plus, credit doesn't mean much. You could have no credit and be wealthy or great credit and be on the brink of financial disaster. I don't think it will be a big deal.
I'm in NC, but I don't remember them doing a credit check. I just had to tell them my income/expenses, and I just rattled them off to them. I'm with the county, if you are with a private agency that may be the difference.
Your right signing my life away for a mortgage was nothing compared to this process.

I am so jealous it seems like we are the only ones being subjected to this :( We are going straight through the county.
SERIOUSLY PEOPLE- who does NOT have at least a LITTLE bit of debt???
Absolutely agree. My husband and I ARE financially stable and ready to provide for children. We have money coming in the next few months in which we will pay off the balance in full, but in the mean time it doesn't look so great KWIM?
Hopefully if this raises any eyebrows we explain this to them!
our home study basically just said credit was checked, verified no judgments, can support family based on current income and debts
(Virginia)
I can't imagine that the specifics would be that much to worry about. It'd surprise me if it was. (and I work in credit and see the value of looking at credit for more than just loans). Don't stress! You've got this!

This is something I'm worried about as we are beginning this process as well.
I had poor credit in the past due to bills collecting when I took care of my parents when they were ill. I had a couple of judgments which have since been paid.
We have an insane amount of student loans due to both of us having multiple graduate degrees.
We already have two children, so I know our income is sufficient to support children. I just hope this doesn't prevent us from growing our family.
