Hello,
I am looking for my half sister. She was born in Massachusetts (not sure where, but it was a private hospital) in 1962, I believe her name was "Heather", my father John Anthony Hamilton was never married to her mother, I believe the mother's name to be Sandra Allen (could be her married last name) I believe Sandra went on and married a member of the Coast Guard, subsequently got divorced and remarried, but not sure. She had two other sons only and they were both autistic as far as I understand it.
My father graduated from Yale in 1966 before he volunteered to be an officer in the Marines during the Vietnam war. He passed when I was 9 years old in 1995 of malignant melanoma.
My father was a graduate of Mount Hermon and the mother a graduate of the sister school, Northfield. The mother had red hair and my dad was a blonde with blue eyes, Scandinavian heritage.
I understand "Heather" was given up for adoption to family friend's who could not have children of their own.
Please contact me if you think you can help.
Hi Ancholuxi,
Unfortunately, "Allen" is such a common surname, so that complicates things.
I don't know much about adoptions in the state of Massachusetts, but they apparently do have a reunion registry. I couldn't find a website for it, but I found the following address/phone number:
Massachusetts Adoption Registry
Adoption Search Coordinator
Massachusetts Department of Social Service
24 Farnsworth Street
Boston, MA 02210
(617) 727-0900
I'd start with a call to them to find out how to get yourself entered into the MA reunion database, assuming her adoption was handled in MA. Do you know if the adoption was handled by a private attorney or whether it was done through an agency (Catholic Charities, etc)? Agencies can often provide non-identifying information that can somehow help in a search.
I'm guessing there's nobody left from your father's younger years who can give you more information - no brother/sister, cousin, high school friend, etc. If you know of any old connections, give them a try.
If you can take a road trip up to MA one of these days, you might want to call around and see if any of the local libraries keep old copies of the Northfield yearbook on hand. You might be able to find a "Sandra" with red hair - and confirm her maiden name. You can then begin searching for her under that name.
I wish you good luck in your search.
