Greetings! My husband and I are both AA are hoping to adopt an infant. We live in North Carolina. We are currently with a non-profit agency and our HS was finalized in September 2012. We have been told that the agency does not place lots of infants; however, costs were a factor in this decision.
We have been waiting without much success. We have gotten referrals for older children. We are considering leaving the agency and was hoping for some directions or guidance for success. There are AA families interested in adoption.
Can you offer some guidance? Are there some referral agencies you would suggest? or would you suggest going directly to some agencies? Any information would be helpful.

We worked with an agency also, and only had older children referred.
once we decided we want to foster/adopt a newborn, we switched to the county.
it took 3 month to switch, we were licenced I January 2011, our son was placed with us @ 2 days old in may 2011, we adopted him in December 2012.
Our stad came to us in October 2011, we are hopeful that the 3. Attempt on tpr in July will finally happen, so we can move forward and adopt our little girl, who came to us as a newborn also.
Its a long and hard path to parenthood ....nerve wrecking ...scary... ut so worth it in the end.
I wish you only the best!!!
