Hi all, my name is Nikki, my DH is Nathan, and our dd, (mine from a previous relationship, but very much his daughter) Lilyanna (5).
We have started the process of getting approved, which goes fast here according to CW. She said usually 30-45 days depending on how fast we do everything! We had our first meeting on June 16th. So far we have done most of our paperwork, clearences, and dh had his physical, mine is monday. So, things are moving right along! I am getting excited!!
We are remodeling our home, it will be 4 bedrooms when it is done, but for now we only have 2, so DD will have to share her room. That really sets our limits, one girl is all we will be allowed at this time. We really want to open our home to sibling sets, so I am in a hurry to get finished with this house!
I have been scouring every post on this website for months and months, but this is my first time posting, figured it was time to introduce myself, since it is finally happening, it is real. We had been talking about this for a couple years, after a long battle with infertility, however, we were staying with my family while remodeling our house. Now, the downstairs is mostly done and we can finally begin the journey of fostering, with the hope to adopt eventually. My dh and I love kids, we want a houseful, we are the crazy family that is always letting dd have all her friends over for the night, and I babysit. When it is just the 3 of us, dd is "SO bored" and can't wait until "the kids" move in, lol.
Sorry if this seems scrambled, I am good at rambling! Just wanted to say hello!

Hi-
My husband and I have been in the steps of being approved for foster parenting since February 2013. We are also from PA. I don't know how she told you it should only take 30-45 days since the background checks alone could take that long to come back. There's home inspections, training, paperwork, auto-biographies to be written, water testing, etc. that needs to be completed. And I'm sure you aren't their only family that is in the process of being approved. Don't take me wrong - I just don't want you to get your hopes up for a speedy approval. I wish you all the luck! We are hoping to be finalized by the end of July.:happydance:

Yeah I thought it seemed quick as well, but the guy from county here told me the same thing, so who knows? We are already 23 days in, have all the paper work and physicals, fingerprints and all that done. I guess the trainings are online?? Did anybody ever hear of that?
Glad to hear from someone in pa! Where are you at? How long has it been since your first meeting? We are in northumberland county :)
We are in Lycoming County. We started our journey in February. We have been lucky that our adoption study is being completed at the same time as our foster parent certification. It has been a frustrating time, trying to find all the necessary documents to satisfy our adoption study. Our water test failed the first time and we had to shock our well. Now there's more paperwork that the adoption agency wants. It feels like a never ending list of hurdles and all we want is a child or children to call our own.
Horseychic77, Glad to hear of somebody close to home! We did our water test today, with well water I am worried. CW came for the sample and we got to touch base with her, she said all the need yet is social security statements...I have to request them online I guess, because we dont have them.
I asked her about getting approved for adoption too, she said that they approve for foster first, because it is quicker, and then move on to the adoption approval. Sounds fair enough I guess.
Are you going through county or an agency?
We are going through both. Foster care through the county and Kispeace is finishing up our home study. Our well didn't pass on the first try. We live in the mountain, and with all the storms we've been having there is a lot of runoff. So we shocked our well and should be able to submit another sample next week. We went to the social security office to get our statements. Quick and easy. All I know is after we get approved, we should be able to guard the president LOL.

I can't even guess how much longer it will take. I didn't think it would have taken us THIS long to be licensed. I think perhaps we would have been licensed sooner if we wouldn't have decided to concurrently do our adoption study. Our caseworker said we would need to complete one in the future if placed with a child that was available to adopt. So she said this would put us one step closer to our goal. It just seems like we hand in all that we think is required and then they say "oh by the way, we need this too"....which takes more time to locate or produce. It is nice to have someone close to talk to. If there's anything I can assist with as far as what has happened to us thus far - I would be happy to offer an advice.:grouphug:
