We're planning to be licensed for 0-3, with 2-3 at a time...tops. DH is a newbie so we're going to try and limit to 1-2, with up to 3 with a sibling group possibly. I've had 4 at a time, so I already know I can do at least that many. I'm finding that getting everything we might need for that age range is rough, and expensive. Things seemed to be a little easier when my kids were little ones many, many years ago. Any recommendations on what we should have on hand, or what things can wait and get if we end up needing them? Our age range is going to be 0-3, boy or girl. Our eventual goal is to adopt one boy and one girl. All we have so far is a few clothing items for each, up to size 24 months. We also have a couple toys, books, a jumper, and a carrier. We figure we'll get two convertible cribs so we can make them whatever we might need (crib, toddler, twin). Not sure what we'll do with car seats yet, other than having at least two on hand. Wow...so much to it...lol.
Make sure you know where your nearest 24 hour store is. Then you are sure to be able to get whatever else you need. Some people recommend a few diapers of each size, or a small package. If you have friends who have little ones, see if you can grab a few.
Sheets and mattress protectors for beds. Blankets, snacks to keep on hand.

I got so much for my baby that I haven't used!
As long as you can feed them, diaper them and keep them warm, then you can get them through till you get to the store. :) Definite other needs will be clothing, car seats, a stroller (single or double depending), something to sleep in, baby safety apparatus, probably something to wear them.. Then the fun stuff like toys, books, mobiles, and music.
Our baby still sleeps in bed with us, so the crib was a complete waste. We use the pack & play sometimes. A changing table isn't really necessary- a towel on the bed or couch works. Baby towels? Regular towels work just fine. Etc etc. Children's consignment stores & Craigslist have all kinds of stuff on sale. Baby stores will make you crazy thinking you need a jumper, bouncer, vibrator, and a musical swinging whatever.. ;)

Depending on the rules where the OP lives, this may not be an option. I know here in AK it is illegal to co-sleep with a foster child of any age. They want parents to follow back to sleep in a crib or bassinet.

This is pretty much exactly what I was thinking! Add a few packs of wipes, some sippy cups and bottles and that should get you through the first night. I also signed up on all the websites like similac, enfamil, huggies etc. I had a bunch of free cans of formula I had received in the mail on hand too, was so helpful when our first placement was a newborn! Good luck!
