Hello, my husband wants to adopt my daughter who is 6 years old. Biological father has never met her or had a relationship with her and I do not know his whereabouts. We reside in Los Angeles County. I have gathered the paperwork to start the adoption. From what I have researched, the first step is to file Forms Adopt-200 and FAM 020 and pay $140 to file. Second, after petition is filed and case number is available we have to mail two conformed copies to DCFS. Where I am confused is what forms I have to file and how to go about trying to locate, which I don't have any leads on him. What is the next step? Someone please help! We are trying to do this on our own without having to pay for a lawyer due to the fact that we do not have the funds.
