So I know I need them to do foster/adopt. However my husband is in the military, he has had extensive background checking for his security clearance, been checked on the same databases as the state requires and has been fingerprinted. I have a call into my state for definitive answers regarding this but can I hear what says the forums? Does he need to go through it all again (nothing to hide) or will a letter or copy of his stuff from the command suffice?
They have to do their own background checks but they are really simple. For us we filled out and had notorized a few sheets of paper for the background check and obviously fingerprints done for the card. This was the fastest and easiest part of the whole process. Background check took a few days and had fingerprint clearance card received in a couple of weeks. I also had a recent background check done by the state for something else and they still just do their own. Unless you already have a level 1 clearance card you will have to do it all. If you have to do an out of state background check it's fast too, ours took a week. We had to becasue we had not lived in t he same state for 5 years.

I checked on this per our previous conversation and yes, according to the YAP caseworker, he will have to do another rudimentary background check consisting of only 2 very brief pages of mostly signatures. mrsmichael33 is right - that is the least painful thing you'll prob have to do. ;)
Yep he's getting another one. I talked to our coordinator today at Region 3. She was super helpful and nice. She explained that it would be "easier" but the military doesn't have the fingerprints and background check in the "proper format"
I actually work with the people who process the fingerprints and do the background check in my state. They still made me take time off of work and drive to their office and get re-fingerprinted (by someone from my dept) and then they mailed the fingerprints back to my office to be processed ;-)
LOL that's actually funny. I figured it was worth an ask since the military does such thorough checks for security clearances
