Becoming Foster Parents--surprises

So the other thread in the "what's it like" section is LONG and I thought we could start another one with a twist:

What sorts of surprises have you found on your "becoming a foster parent" journey? Good and bad surprises.

So far I'm surprised at how speedy it was to get the invite to the orientation meeting. I was expecting to start honestly in January. I'm not keeping my hopes up though about the speed

I was surprised at how invasive the homestudy was not. lol I was told to expect incredibly invasive questions (like how many times a month my husband and I have sex). I was pretty nervous about the questions. But,as it turned out, all of the questions seemed reasonable.
