I am looking into becoming a foster parent and have done lots of research but there are a few things I'm not sure on. I know there are no minimum income requirements other than being able to support yourself but how to they check your financials. The reason I ask is that I recently graduated from a Masters program and my DH is back in school. We own our own business that has been in operation since January (so almost a full year now) and also own our own home and have never been late on a mortgage payment. My DH went back to school in August and before that worked a full time job in an office for about 7 months. Because our income history is so new we do not have previously filed taxes to prove adequate income despite being plenty capable of providing for ourselves. If anyone could shed some light on this(documents they ask for) I would be very appreciative!
Also what is the order of the process as far as submitting papers, classes, home visit etc.
We live in Marion County. From what I've read lots of stuff depends on your county.
I'm in NY. I just had to provide a budget showing I could pay my bills without the subsidy. They want to make sure that you're not in it for the money.

that is certainly a big part of the reasoning. the other part - even thought you "get help" while fostering, at least in my perspective, you will spend more money than you receive.
i think they'd like to make sure you can manage your finances well enough to weather this
I am also in Indiana, northern. Basically you will need to list your expenses then list your income. As long as you can provide for your self/family you should be fine. I do think you have to submit a previous years taxes in with your home study. It's been a few years since we were licensed, I can't remember definitely.
They have changed the licensing process since we were licensed. Then we took all of our classes, 2 nights per week, for a month. Afterward we submitted our home study packet and about 2 months later we were licensed.
Some things do depend on county or regional office, but most everything has to go through the state.
