I was born Richard Adams on April 10 1961 in Takoma Park Md. I am looking for my birth parents. I have no specific information about either of them. Here is my shot in the dark.

Hey Galensears, it's hard to know what help to offer because its unknown where you are in your search. You might try to get a copy of the adoption decree. This will be in the court papers held by the county where the final adoption took place. In most states you are entitled to non-id information.I would contact the orphans court in MD to see what types of forms they require for you to get the info you are seeking. Some states allow for a letter written by the adoptee, others will allow information if their forms are used. The Clerk of the court will provide administrative info on what forms are needed to get the court info. They will not give legal advice. They will however send you the forms if they require it. If the records are sealed, it will be the judges ruling on how much info is provided. Most info taken from the court records at the time of the final adoption, deal only with the actions of the court. There is little if any personal info within those records.I wish you the best.

Welcome.Since you say you're just starting your search, have you registered yet for the Maryland state adoption registry? It's a passive, mutual consent registry that, if both adoptee and birth family members are signed up, will find the match and provide information. You can get details and forms at You can also register for the International Soundex Reunion Registry, which is the biggest mutual consent registry around. Again, they don't do the search for you, but if both parties register, the match will be made. They're at www.isrr.org.Is there any chance that your adoptive parents have any information they can (and will) share with you? The name of the agency you were adopted through, or the name of the lawyer, if it was private? If you were adopted through an agency, there's a chance that you can get some non-identifying information by reaching out to the agency. It usually isn't much, but it's a place to start, and the information can come in handy as you continue your searching.Like Drywall said above, you can reach out to the county court where your adoption was finalized, and in some states you might be able to get additional information. I don't think Maryland provides access to original birth certificates, but there might be something else you can get through the courts...There are search angels who are willing (and sometimes able) to help continue a search when you feel like you've hit a dead end - if that happens, you can reach out for help. I think there are some search angels on this site (look in the forum for your state, perhaps? or the search angel forum?), as well as at other online adoptee support sites. There's also the route of hiring a private investigator to continue the search. There are search and reunion companies that focus their efforts on finding people involved in the adoption triad. They don't come cheap, but if you hit a wall and can't find any information, they might know where to look to continue searching, since it's pretty much what they do. Might be worth saving up for, perhaps...Unfortunately, with a really common last name (like Adams), the search is complicated. There are bound to be a lot of Adams anywhere you look. I hope you can get some more information that can help you narrow down the field...I wish you the best of luck.
