This is the first one I have ever submitted to get more information on a child. How does it work? Should I call to follow up? Little one is in my state, in the same county even. Any help is appreciated!

A girl, she is 6 years old. :cheer: I will be calling in the morning as we're in the midst of a huge snowstorm.
I would call..but so many times they have so many homes interested..
BUT that is great your in the same county!! Thats rare
Call or email at least every couple days (without being obnoxious) until you get a response. I firmly believe that the reason we had a placement so quickly is I made it very difficult to forget that I wanted to hear from them. They will look over your homestudy, and you will be put in a big old stack if they think its a potential match. Those will be weeded through by caseworkers, and then probably the therapists and finally a team including the foster parents. If you are a match they will call you, but don't hold your breathe! Especially for younger ones, there are usually quite a few families being considered.

Did you hear back?

Called once, she was out due to weather. I'll be calling Monday morning. I'm not holding my breath for being picked, but who knows!
So I called and left a message this morning. Just received a call back. Apparently, she is in a residential treatment place right now and is not ready for adoption. However she did put our names in her fie that we're interested when she does become available.
Here's my question: what behaviors would cause her to be in a facility like that? She is only 6.
What I've seen over 6 years...physical aggression, I had a 7 yr old try to stab people in my home...., I've had some kids come who were psychotic (yes at 6)....severe tantrums such bad behaviors that could not be handled in a home setting :(

Oh my :(
Completely out of control, dangerous to be in any kind of family setting, even too much for therapeutic home...
That's what pops into my mind...
Have you thought about fostering to adopt? Sure, it might take more time to get to finalization, but the chances of getting a more suitable case are higher, then going through the photo listings....especially for a younger child,
Remember most foster children never make it to the listings, because they get adopted by their foster family...
