I am very interested in adopting a medically fragile child from California. I have done things a bit backwards and have already spoken with his caseworker. She provided me a lot of information about him, and I am anxious to move forward. She told me to get a home study completed ASAP and then fax it to her.
I contacted my local DCFS agency and was told they don't even license families to foster medically fragile children. I guess these children are placed by private agencies.
I have no idea which agency will be able to help. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have spent hours online searching and am not having any success. I live in Mchenry county. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Call the 800# in the middle of the page. Illinois Department of Children and Family ServicesThis is how we found our agency. I told them where we lived and they gave me a name. When I asked more a different one, they gave me two more slightly further away and in a different area (we are right on the edge of two 'areas').Good luck. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll give you some specific agencies to call.

Thank you for the number. Unfortunately, the agencies that they gave me numbers for are unable to help my situation. They do help with adoption but only for the children in their agency. Neither agency deals with medically fragile, only children with mental health concerns. I would love any advice or information on someone who is open to working with an out of state placement.
How wonderful you have a child that's caught your heart.
I'm not sure where in Illinois you are. My husband and I are also seeking the "right" agency for us. Though we are pursuing it more traditionally, we have found a good source of local advice.
If you're in the Chicago area, I encourage you to explore a local church's Vulnerable Children's ministry as a place to find direction and answers to your questions. There is even a meeting this week. If you're in the area, PM me and I'll happily share the details with you.
