I made some progress! They are now doing our background check. And all our homestudy visits are scheduled to be completed by the first week of July. After that we will be done with our part. I'm so excited to see this actually moving along!!! I thought it would be months and months. I couldn't be happier...well except if I was already licensed :P
Question: I'm new at this, so do we do our Home Study before GPS classes or after?
Congrats on the progress, one step closer!

I dont know about your county but in my whole state we do classes first and then home study because a lot of people drop out after classes and they dont want to "waste" the cw time because home studys are very intensive.

This is true here too. It is common to have a big class the first day and a very small class the last day, so home studies are done after classes. :)
Congratulations! I know how excited you feel! My husband and I just finished our last home study on Monday. It's now the waiting game! Our licensing worker told us it would take him 3 weeks to write up the report and then it will be very quick from there to become "officially" licensed
thisthing - how is it going by now?
blessings_overflow - congrats! How was the home study? I am filling out the initial application right now and it's daunting to think of how far we still have to go...

counrty_mama - The home study process went really well and really quick for us. Our licensing worker interviewed my husband and i separately. He asked us lots of questions - our strengths/weaknesses, our relationship, our childhood growing up, relationships with parents, support networks, etc. He got enough information that he said we wouldn't need to meet again (most home visits are three 2 hour sessions, we only did two 2 hour sessions).
Don't be overwhelmed :) Of course timing wise it does depend on where you live. When I filled in our initial application we were told the whole process would take 120 days. And we are right on track with that. I would call DHHS (or the agency if you're going private) and ask them when their next training/classes start. Ask if you can be slotted in asap. Once you've done the trainings things should hopefully move along fast. I live in Maine and thought it would be super slow..but turns out there are LOTS of newborn babies in need of full time foster moms due to an increase in heroine and methadone abuse here :( Call your agency and ask them how frequently children are coming into their custody. That will also give you a general sense of how long you may wait for a call. You could also ask how many current foster homes are at full capacity (over here it's at 96%)...means DHHS is in dire need of new homes opening up.
I'll be thinking of you. Good luck with the process. Keep us updated! :)
Countrymama- We're still waiting. We completed the home study early this month but they say they won't write up the home study until late next month or mid the next month. I hate this process so much! Slow and our licensor is difficult.

Wow! That seems slow for sure!
