Breif bio: I adopted DS from foster care several years ago, but had met & matched with him before training so I never really fostered. Now we're looking to adopt again. I know this time will be different because we'll be working from a child profile instead.
So, we were just approved...YAY! So far we've gotten 2 referrals, but both have been WAY outside our comfort zone. Our comfort zone is not narrow by any means, we are well versed in the range of issues that traumatized youth can have. But these referrals have had multiple deal breakers.
So what do you think? Is the agency testing the water with their most difficult cases first and seeing how much we're open to? Or are all the referrals going to be like this?

Sometimes they do this just hoping that you are naive. Sometimes they do this just hoping that you are moved and they can place. Stick to your guns. If you keep getting referrals that are super out of your comfort zone, sit down and meet with your worker and ask what is going on with your home study, maybe there is something in it sending up flags that you can handle these kids
