I've been licensed for more than two months and it looks like I'm about to finally become a foster parent. I did receive other calls (though not the first month) but until this week, the calls were for children from 4 months to 7 years and I'm licensed for one 12-18 year old. A few days ago, I did get a call for two unrelated teens but I (purposely) only have one bed. Yesterday, I think I struck the lottery!
It's an unusual situation in that it's not an emergency placement (she's in a group home) and the decision was made to bring me and the potential foster child together first, to be see if we'll work well together.
I've been a professor for 23 years and this young lady mostly gets upset when she has to miss school. I'm thinking this is a good match, eh? *grin* We meet tomorrow and she could move in within a day or so.
So, any advice for fostering a smart, aggressive 13 year old girl? I feel up to it but any input will be greatly appreciated!!!!
