So I filled out our initial application, sent it back two weeks ago, and haven't heard a word yet. I'm not gonna be good with all the waiting, I can tell!

Hi Country Mama-we just submitted our initial screening paper work yesterday, so maybe I'm just a few weeks behind you getting started at this. Have you heard back anything yet? We are in KY.
It took 6 business days for the mail-order training modules to arrive, rather than the 5 days they said it would take. On the fifth day I called, emailed, complained to whomever would listen...
I'm right there with you on the patience scale...

I have started receiving group emails about local events/picnics, etc. (I assume this means I am on the list for training updates, etc) Nothing pertinent to getting licensed! I haven't heard anything personally from the licensor, though. I was kinda crazy busy, so decided to give her a few weeks, but I am going to email her soon and ask what is up.
Even if it is awhile till the next training, I would like to know what to expect.
I wonder if this is normal?!?
Smarty
You can see from my signature the length of time for our process. Don't bug them this early!
So no contact for 2 months?
I don't want to be a pain... just from previous emails with her, she said to fill out the paperwork, then she would let me know. Its been a month now with nothing at all. Not even an email. (other than two group emails about an adoptable kid and a community picnic.)
I guess I should be happy she has the right email, huh? :)

We had our "informational mtg" this morning. Watched a video urging to accept teens, and pregnant teens. Talked about what their process is, which consists of reading and completing sets of workbooks, and accomplishing a question and answer session with the director after each set of workbooks. Sounds like 1st home visit will be after completion of workbooks 5 & 6, and 2nd home visit will be after she reviews workbooks 5 & 6.
Asked about the bedroom with the door...she said it shouldn't be a problem! I'm relieved. We will appreciate the extra space. Here we go!
Our old county did the talk on wanting people to take teens as well. We said no thanks but the people who do are super heroes!! What age group are you wanting to take? Congrats on getting started!!
Well, after 10 weeks, we finally have a PRIDE class starting in two weeks. Wow. Never thought it would be so long til the training! Anyways. Curious, excited, scared, slightly anxious... guess we're gonna start this!

Waiting is definitely tough! Hope things start to speed up for you soon! :)
1971.mom: I'm in KY too! I made initial contact in mid-August and on Wednesday I have my second home visit. Then my home study will be sent off as soon as my fingerprints come back! I did them last Tuesday. Have you had your fingerprints done? Any idea how long it took for them to come back? See country_mama, I'm impatient too!! :)
We still have some documents to chase down, and fingerprints to get done before completion of our "workbooks". Director says she would like workbooks completed within 3 months (approximately). DH works 2nd shift, so completing them together comes in small chunks. I have stopped working full time in medical business office to substitute teach until the fostering can begin happening. Oldest DD isn't taking to college 2 hrs away and may return home after this semester. I'm praying to practice patience and tolerance as this proceeds.
So you don't have to attend PRIDE classes? Just do workbooks? That's interesting.
We went to orientation in March and got our background checks, fingerprints and insurance cards submitted by the end of March. Got accepted to class beginning of April. Started class middle of April, finished before Memorial Day. Ours was the first class to be fast tracked. Most PRIDE sessions are 9 weeks long, ours was 4.5 weeks. We had our first home study end of June, got licensed end of August. Got 2 calls before officially licensed, said yes to both, but didn't work out. September 10th we got our current placements. Two boys, 2.5 years and 17 months. Last Monday was the first day that I really felt I could do this. My husband has been awesome, but I'm the main care giver as I stay home. No kids to 2 toddlers was a HUGE adjustment!
Good luck with everything!
sjm-Director here says they never get enough people available at the same time to do classes. They had someone develop a "couples", or "family" set of workbooks designed to have the family do activities and worksheets together, and then come in for discussion meetings with her after each set of books for question and answer sessions about the subject matter. Sounds like we have to have our fingerprinting done and back before we submit all our copies of documentation and the formal application, along with the completed homestudy all at once at the end of our home visits-the first of which will be at completion of the last 2 books. I see lots of varying processes on here, this way of going about it seems pretty easy. Most of it depends on how proactive I am about getting things accomplished.
Matthew- We feel like school age children would be best for our family since we are already coming and going with the school day anyway. I'm pretty open myself, my husband is concerned about teens, but will be accepting on a case by case basis I believe.

Wow, I believe it! :) Kudos to you. You are strong. And I'm glad you're feeling like it's coming together. I have a almost-two-year-old, so I am thinking if I get another toddler it might be crazy around here too. ;)
We applied the first of July--- tonight is orientation mtg. I am pretty excited. They said we will schedule the next 8 PRIDE classes tonight. We already sent background checks, etc in with our initial application.
