I'm interested in becoming a single mom foster parent in FL.
I recently quit my full time job for various reasons, one main one being so that I can spend more time with my kiddos.
I currently receive child support and alimony that covers our budget. It will not be ending any time soon.
I also have a significant amount of money in savings that can be accessed if needed.
I've read some places that child support or alimony cannot be the only income. But what if it's both?
Will I likely not be approved for fostering since I don't have another income stream?
Thanks.

We are in the process of our homestudy in Fl. During our PRIDE classes we had to submit an income and expense statement along with proof of income source. This is what was listed in our PRIDE manual :Finances:Applicants income must meet all their household and living expenses and they must have enough funds to provide for foster child for possibly 6-8 weeks before they receive the foster board check.Applicants much provide verification of employment -or- income source (w2, w9, or pay stubs)You can work outside he home or be retired.Disqualifies are : food stamps, AFDCYou can rent or own your own home or apartmentThe Income and Expense Statement essentially was our monthly budget. It did give a space for "other income" (specify type), savings, etc. it also asks a breakdown of monthly expenses to see that you can afford to provide for your current family. It states that " Any income documented on this form needs to include backup, verifiable documentation for the licensing file."Don't know if that answers your question, but it sounds like if you have proof of where the income is coming from, there shouldn't be an issue, but that is something you could ask at the beginning. Our homestudy requires basically a repeat of this information.

I went through this and Im in Florida also. It is actually in the statutes that child support/alimony alone can't be used as income. There has to be verifiable outside income. I was told that I could do a waiver request to Tallahassee which I did but that was 1 1/2 years ago and nothing ever came of it. I think it stopped on someone's desk and wasnt considered a priority and just got shuffled until it disappeared. I have now been working for a year and have started the licensing process again. You might want to check with the licensing person in your county to see if they think a waiver might work for you but if I were you I would get a part time job to combine with the child support/alimony before even starting the licensing process.
