We have a room that we use as a bedroom currently, that has its own outside entrance and no attached closet. We have a "doorbell attachment" on the outside frame of the door that rings out if the door is opened. The room was used as a hair salon by the previous owners (hence its own business entrance). Will these things prevent us from using that "bedroom" for foster child placements? Any insight from anyone will be helpful.
You will honestly need to find out what your local regulations are. Things like vary significantly from area to area and agency to agency. So basically anything anyone here tells you will only be applicable to their situation, not yours.
But as a data point...both the outside door and the lack of closet would be problems here.

Could you make that the master bedroom?
Here, the closet isn't an issue. You just have to have someplace for kids' stuff. But I would guess the door may be more of an issue.

Here you would need an exception for the lack of closet, but it's easy enough to get one. Put an extra dresser or a cabinet in the room and your good.
The exterior door would be a deal breaker here and the only way to fix it would be to take the door out and install a window in it's place.
Finally heard back from our initial screening application. Have our first informational meeting with DCBS program director next Wednesday. We have a lot of work to get organized before inspection. I think we can do OK without using that room anyway. But if we can it will help us space wise. I hope to get an inspection checklist to go on as soon as possible.

Described the bedroom in question to DCBS Director...she says it doesn't sound like a problem. Point may be mute anyways...oldest DD isn't too fond of college 2hrs away from home. She may be returning after this semester, and we'll all buddy up again anyhow!
