Any thought about adopting a teen in a different county? I'm just wondering if the teen would hate the move or even bond.

We have a teen coming to us from out of state. They are excited for the change.
I think for each child it would be different, since many of these children come from tough backgrounds (which are known by the other kids locally)and since stigma often follows a child growing up for some I imagine it would be a welcome relief to start fresh.

I think it depends on the situation. Recently in my area there was a teen who needed a home and was sent from one county county hundreds of miles away to my county. It was a foster arrangement and she was "desperate to finish school" and needed a home. It was arranged agency to agency and here she was happy to be in a new place. The problem was the school district determined she had already met the requirements for graduation so they wouldn't enroll her. She was essentially an adult who needed to enroll at the college or get a job. She did neither. In the end the county wouldn't pay the family who took her in and her social worker decided to move her back to her county of origin. The girl was angry and accused the family of ruining her life...I guess the message is, make sure you understand what you are getting into and what is the real facts of the situation. This young lady actually joined another facebook group and sought out the family for herself...she then attempted to get a placement for her friend as well.
