It's hard not to get overwhelmed. Our first adoption was a private adoption, with a friend of family. ICPC involvement, one not so good lawyer and one amazing lawyer. Lots of support throughout.
Fast forward seven years and we're ready to adopt again but this time we didn't get a "surprise phone call". I have been researching like a crazy woman.
- we want to adopt a newborn domestically
- we are totally open to ICPC again
- we are in a VERY open adoption currently and would be prefer to have at minimum a semi-open adoption again
- like most, we would rather not wait forever. due to some horrible circumstances, we came into some money that we will be using for the adoption.
- however, despite having the new sum of money, we want this adoption to be "on the up and up" - no shady practices. I feel like the more I research, the fewer agencies/facilitators there even are to choose from.
- DH is 40, I am 35
- we are still struggling as to whether we should go with agency or facilitator
- based on our history of such a positive adoption experience, we very much recognize the importance of care of the birthmother and want to ensure she is given counseling and treated well.
anyone have a recommendation where there is a balance of not horrible wait times, and money is not a driving factor, BUT wanting to make sure the agency is morally and ethically good???
