Hello everyone. I have been reading here for awhile now and figure that since foster parent is becoming a reality for me I'd like to say hello. I've been interested in foster care for as long as I can remember- likely in part to my parent's close friends who were foster parents (and have been fostering for 30 years this year!). I knew I wanted to be a foster parent but also knew that you can't just choose that as a career when graduating so became a social worker instead. I was working with ongoing foster homes and placing kids when I got pregnant. My husband and I decided this was the time to transition to having kids and took the training a year ago. Baby was born in January and we wanted to take some time to settle in before opening our home. We have been trying to get the homestudy done for a few months now, but of course things are somewhat slow going.
I talked to our worker yesterday, who said she mailed out the homestudy and foster home agreement. Once we sign that and send it back we will officially be approved! I really am excited and somewhat nervous to get started. To be honest, one of my biggest concerns is just the parenting/discipline stuff since we are only parents to a baby at the moment. I'm sure it will be fine, but I guess it is just a bit more unknown. I am fortunate to have a pretty good understanding of the system from work in the past. So anyways, just wanted to say hello!
