I see lots of adoption quotes along the line of family meaning love rather than DNA. While I understand the intent of these quotes, and they are very sweet, I wonder if there's a better way to say it. An adoptive family is created through love, and I respect and admire that. But it is also created from the love of a birth parent who sacrifices for the good of that child. DNA does mean family, I feel very connected to my birth daughter and still consider her a part of my family. That doesn't make her any less a daughter to her adoptive parents, I consider them family too. I think adoption can be a perfectly legitimate way to create a family without ignoring that the child has biological roots as well, they don't just disappear. Does anyone have any thoughts/quotes that express this idea well?
