If I've made an adoption match and am pursuing an adoption without an adoption agency, what steps should I take to ensure that I've dotted all my i's and crossed my t's both legally and ethically?
I think a lot of that information you can get just by talking to the expectant mom. Asking them straight up if they feel pressured and reassuring them that that's not what you want to do. Making sure they have resources and support. Offering to pay for their counseling. Sometimes a birth parent will be dishonest and say they don't feel pressured when in reality they do, but make sure you at least ask and that that pressure isn't being applied by you. If EM and the baby would not be put at risk, make sure the birth father knows the plan and is okay with it. Obviously these questions make the most sense in a domestic infant adoption.
