How to tell a family you want to place with them

How did you tell the family who adopted your birth child that you wanted to place with them? If you're an adoptive parent, how did your child's birth parent tell you? I told my birth daughter's parents by sending them a photo of my ultrasound that said "I grew in your hearts"
