HI,
So I stumbled across this site and have been reading through the threads. I love hearing everyone stories. Recently I've been asked to take a relative's kids and consider adoption. My husband and i have agreed to take them. Next week they want to schedule an emergency home study. The lady said pretty much the other lady is going to come out , talk with my husband and i, and check to see if smoke detectors are working. Pretty much made it sound super easy. My sister who has a foster child of her own said the complete opposite. Pretty much told me they will make you feel like horrible people and violate and harass us. (she tends to be a little dramatic), but with what she said i know they are going to really have to check our house more than just smoke alarms. We live on a small somewhat of a farm. We have a lot of tools, equipment, some animals. I think i am more worried about what they will think of these things instead of what is in my house. We have 2 kids already some our house is somewhat "baby proofed". The kids we are trying to adopt are older than our kids now. We don't really have the fund to go out and buy storage spots for all these tools to keep them completely locked up. Usually kept in the garage hung on the walls. Our kids know not to touch them but im sure they will be like well what makes you think these ones will also. So pretty much all i'm asking is am i being too paranoid about this? Any advice? What am i to expect? How long do things take after the home study? and if any of you live in the ct/mass area would you happen to know any cool programs i could get them into that involve other foster/adoptive children?
Thanks!

I typed out a really long response and in my final thought, I decided to do a quick Google Search, to make sure I had the correct answer -- in doing so, I came across a copy of the Handbook for MA Foster Parents. Rather than blather on about my thoughts, I deleted it and I am going to give you the link to the handbook. I hope it helps! Please come back and ask any questions that you might have. This is a fantastic resource and we're always here to help!
