I know you asked this over a year ago so you might have learned since then+ but I know the answer to this.
In IVF they give the mom a drug regimen that causes her to create a lot of eggs. Those eggs are extracted and combined with dads sperm, becoming embryos. Some of those embryos are implanted into the moms uterus with the hope that it will attach. If it does it means she is pregnant and the pregnancy would continue like a normal pregnancy.
If she had embryos that she didn't use, they would be frozen for use later. When a couple decides that their family is complete they might still have some frozen embryos left.
Some people have their extra embryos destroyed, some have them donated to science, and some give them to other couples.
So other couples can "adopt" embryos and then implant them in the new mom's womb. This means that she can be pregnant and give birth to her children even though they aren't biologically related to her or her husband. Some people choose to refer to this as "giving birth to your adopted child" (This is not legally viewed as an adoption though. It is more like using donor sperm, or donor eggs. They are donor embryos).
