Texas Step Parent Adoption

I was wondering if anyone had any stories or has done a step parent adoption in Texas? Me and my husband just hired a lawyer to start the process and we are a little nervous! A little background. My daughters bio dad isn’t on her birth certificate, never paid child support, we’ve lived in the same state as him for maybe 1 year of her life and she’s almost six. He’s seen her twice since June of 2016 for a total of 1 1/2 hours. He calls here and there but she doesn’t know who he is at all. I could show her a picture and she wouldn’t know who it is. My husband has been in her life since she was 1 years old. He’s been financially responsible for her since she was 2 (we are a military family). We think this is best for her and the lawyer says we have a strong case. Has anyone gone through this? Any advice?
