To do an independent adoption (which if no medical or other expenses are incurred that as an adoptive parent you would be responsible for) we have been told to expect about $4-5,000 for legal, homestudy, etc. the military will reiumburse you for $2,000, and there is a tax credit (as opposed to a deduction) for up to $10,000. Start working on your homestudy and telling everyone you know that you want to adopt...sometimes that is faster than going through an agency (read Allie on the "Success Strategies" board)
