To do an independent adoption (which if no medical or other expenses are incurred that as an adoptive parent you would be responsible for) we have been told to expect about $4-5,000 for legal, homestudy, etc. the military will reiumburse you for $2,000, and there is a tax credit (as opposed to a deduction) for up to $10,000.
Start working on your homestudy and telling everyone you know that you want to adopt...sometimes that is faster than going through an agency (read Allie on the "Success Strategies" board)

We are an AF family and we are applying thru a children's home thru of church. It is Presbyterian Children's House Svcs. We are in Texas. We decided just after Christmas to try to adopt again. Our first time didn't work out. Different state now.
Try your pastor, if you go to church, every county has DSS or CPS, ask around. I will look around and let you know.
