Where to start....

Doing a general search on the web brought up many many many places...where do you start? Are there good free sites to help you or are you better off paying? Any information on how to get started would be greatly appreciated. I don't think they have much information to go on, I don't even know if they have a copy of her adoption records..where do you get that?Thanks in advance, Robin
