My stepson's bio mom has been gone for 4 years. NO CONTACT. Nothing. Then we find out she's in Prison in Arizona serving 3 1/2 yrs for assualt w/deadly weapon. I don't want to contact her for consent. i'm afraid she'll retaliate. For pete's sake, her deadly weapon? she shot someone. I'd rather adopt my stepson without her knowing, that way I don't stir the pot. We do have all the qualifications to apply under abondonment willful failure to support. Please help with any advice. If her parental rights haven't been terminated then she would have to be notified. You might be able to get her rights terminated if she won't consent to the adoption, but she still has to know.
