I am a 31 year old male, college educated, earning a decent income. I have been thinking of adoption for about a year, since a friend of mine (female) adopted an infant from Romania. In doing some preliminary research, I think that an older boy (aged 10 to 13) would be a good match for me, as I do have experience working with adolescents and high school students. My question is this: Recently, I moved back in with my parents to help them financially. They are both retired and we have a large expanse of land that my father is no longer able to keep up by himself. I have purchased a 50% share of the land. Will the fact that I am not living on my own be seen as a detriment to my chances? (I know that circumstances are varible in every situation, but I would like some feedback from folks who may have gone through this). Thanks

I am not a social worker, but there is such a need for men to adopt older boys...You don't mention what state you are in...but go to the Special Needs Expert Board...it's off the following link and there is a long series of posts from a single guy there named Kegan who's adopting an older boy:http://www.adopting.org/supports.html

Hi, I too am a single father to be who just accepted two referrals. I tried to adopt through Special needs, but in my state I found it was very difficult and slow. The social workers are so over extended. I ended up adopting internationally. I don't live at home however, I don't think that will matter much as long as you can prove you are stable and mature. Good Luck in whatever avenue you decide. David
I live with my mom and dad
I help them out with money as well due to I get disablity and
they get so much of that each month witch helps them live.
I dont move out for that very reason
So if you have heard any info on living at home helping or hurting let me know.
From the info I have gotten from the state
it does mean every member of the house will have to have back ground checked and be part of the home study.
