I have two younger cousins whom I spent alot of time with while they were growing up, and have babysit them, as well as other children, many times. I have a few questions....1. Is it true that most adoption agencys wont allow a single man to adopt a daughter ? I've heard from many people that due to society these days, single men can only adopt boys, and since most of my 'fathering' skills have been with girls, I was hoping to have a daughter someday. 2. How do I go about finding a local 'single-friendly' adoption agency ? Im in the western New York area.3. How many children are available in the us for single parents to adopt ? Dont the agencys normally give couples the priority ? 4. Once you have adopted a child, are there meetings or other requirements to fulfill ? Thanks for any help or info you can give me. Im very eager to become an adoptive parent, and someday I hope to hear the gentle patter of little feet following close behind me. :)Ryan

I know that there is still bias where all single people are concerned (male or female). I have been trying to adopt for a little over a year and one of the things I've heard is "We have two parent families interested in this child so they will get preference". I have just recently decided to do foster care in my state (VA) in the hope that I will someday get a permanent placement. Since you are looking at older children, that should help. Check out the Expert Boards on this web site as well. There are some single men who post to the Special Needs Expert board and they might be able to give you some advice. Good luck!.....Cheryl
