Is there anyway to have a stepparent adoption in the state of California (Los Angeles) without having to deal with Social Services? They want to ask my 6 year old if she would like my husband to be her father. She already calls him daddy. To her he is daddy. I think these types of questions are damaging to a six year old. And since when does a 6 year old get to decide on legal matters? They also want to question her alone. I refuse.We have not filed a petition yet, so we are not locked into anything. Has anyone else had this problem?

We did our step-parent adoption in Santa Clara County and yes, Social Services ran the show - without their recommendation, the step-parent adoption would not have been granted. They did talk to our daughter, but it was infront of us and the lady was extremely pleasant. She asked my daughter if she knew what it meant to be adopted, she asked her about her relationship with her biological father, she asked my husand a few questins and that was it - it took all of 45 minutes. Now, mydaughter was 9 at the time and I think the questions would be geared toward your child's age. I wouldn't worry too muvh about it, but I'm fairly certain that every county in California involves Social Services -
