As far as subsidies, many times, states will grant a continual payment to families after adoption and up to the age of either 18 or 21 years in some cases for special needs kids, to cover costs of needed therapy or medical care. In our state, college tuition, books, etc. are covered as well. I'm sure you know about the tax credit up to $10,000.00 of expenses also. In addition, check with your employer, ours offers a $5,000.00 reimbursement for adoption expenses. You are also offered parental leave by federal law I believe, though I'm not sure of the amount of time an employer must allow you to miss work (usually withougt pay though), but it's the same as that granted parents of biological children, as it should be. Check with your local DCF office. Hope this helps.
