Looking for an answer. My son is 14. I was six months pregnant with him when his dad passed away of cancer. I am now remarried. My husband would lilke to adopt him. My son would like to be adopted by him, but would also like to keep his name so that his biological fathers name can be carried on. He was the only child born who bears my deceased husbands name. Does anyone know where I can find answers to this question.

Yes. At least in Kentucky, any name can be chosen (or kept) during the legal adoption process. Our lawyer told us tht it was up to us, so our 8 year-old boy moved his birth last-name to his middle name, and took our last name. That was his idea.
