Okay Everyone ...
It doesn't take one long to learn that there is an "adoption language". What Adoption terms or phrases do you hate?
For example: I hate "giving your baby up" (Although, many who had closed adoptions literally gave up their baby unto the unknown, but times have changed). I also hate "Real Mother". I once heard that "A Real Mother is any Mother who is not imagined".
If you can't think of a phrase or word ...what about a common misconception or stereotype?
Hope to hear from you!

I really hate when people say "you gave those people a wonderful gift"
My daughter is not a gift, if anything I gave her a wonderful gift. The gift of life with TWO loving parents who have the means of caring for and parenting her beter than I ever could.
I think a misconception, expecially young birthmoms and those out side of the adotion world, is that open adoptions are not legally open. Either party can cut contact at any time and not much can be done.

Thanks Addie for your input!
I have written many timesin my work that my daughter's parents were the gift to Emily, not the other way around.
And yes, sadly open adoption agreements are not legally forceable. I wish more bParents knew this when considering adoption for their child. Of course, as we all know, bParents can back out of the agreement too ...which may leave the child hurt and confused.
Thanks again,
Skye
