Here's my disclaimer... tee hee... I make no claims to know everything about these agencies, nor do I "suggest" that you use them. I do however suggest each of you do your own research on these agencies to determine if they meet your needs. This is solely a list of agencies that I considered when trying to adopt our baby girl. It is by no means all-inclusive!! Hope this helps!!
First, I'm going to give a list of facilitators, networkers and various other "non agency" services.

There ya have it! Like I said, this is not an all-inclusive list. Please, please do your own research on these agencies. I do not want anybody to blame me for leading them to an unscrupulous agency, I am merely providing a list of links that I have accumulated over the last year.

hi Sidswife,
Welcome, I have found this be a very friendly and helpful forum. I hope you do too. how long have you been waiting?
We applied at our agency in Nov. 02. We completed our homestudy in February. I know that it has only been a month but it is killing me! Also, our agency does not seem to be getting a lot of possible situations. I was told that there was such a need for families to adopt but it seems to me like there are more than enough. Can anyone give me their take on this?
we bought our daughter home last June after waiting only 2 months. (It seemed like forever to us) Wewere told at that time that more families were becoming interested in adopting AA/BR children at that time. We were very open different situations with drug and acohol use and that helped to shorten our wait. Our daughter's Bmom didn't use either ,we are truely blessed by that. Good luck and I hope your wait is a short one. It will be well worth it when you hold that baby for the first time.
I think there's definately a need out there. The problem is that sometimes adoptive families get tied into an agency and for one reason or another that particular agency's need isn't as great. Agencies cannot guarantee how many birthmothers they will be working with at any given point in time. Your agency probably did have a great need when you started working with them, but it sounds like right now they don't. So, you have 2 choices... 1) be patient with your agency and wait until the right birthmother comes along (it probably won't be long - the "average" wait is 1-6 months for a bi-racial or AA baby) ... or 2) try to network on your own with other agencies. Don't lose hope!! Your baby will find his/her way home to you. :D
We were homestudy ready in Sept. '02 and brought Kennedy home in Jan. '03.

 I'm a single looking to adopt a BR/Multicultural 2-2 1/2 year old girl or twins. My homestudy is finished, however, in VA I seem to be getting the run around. Is there anyone with suggestions for agencies in VA. Currently working with a public agency who keeps suggesting children that don't meet my criteria. HELP!
We used Adoptions From The Heart(www.adoptionsfromthehert.com) We are in PA, but I believe they have an office in VA. There were a few single parents in the book when we were in and I know for fact our Bmom was shown 2 singles. Good luck.
Hi. My husband and I want to adopt through our county here in California. Today we are telling the social worker of our decision to take a 3 1/2 week old baby girl. We met her last Saturday and she's adorable! She has a bad family history, however, and I am so nervous! My hus. feels really good about the decision to take her and our 2 youngest really want her (we have 4 sons, 23, 20, 18 and 17). Our 20 is fine with the decision and the 23 year old is not saying much.
She was exposed to cocaine (mom has a long history of drug abuse along with mental illness, "including depression). Baby has 5 siblings. I don't think any live with the mom. The sibs have aggressive and disruptive behaviors. The 2nd child is a teen and has FAS. (MY BIGGEST FEAR!)
Oh, and the dad wants the baby back. :( He is in jail, however, for grand theft and probation violations on burglary and possession charges. He also has admitted to doing cocaine.
I know the family history and the childrens' behaviors could be because of their mother's lifestyle so I'm trying to stay positive. I just don't feel as right about the decision as my husband. Am I crazy to just trust his judgement? He is just so in love with her. (she IS adorable!)
Glad I found this board!
