Are there any AA singles adopting? I'm going thru the state (FL)...looking for a 1 to 3 yo...probably a girl.
I had my first home visit today. It was easier than I anticipated. And to think I really cleaned my house and the SW just did a walk thru...oh well...my house is clean.
I am not single but hubby and I are adopting. A friend of mine is single and adopting in GA and is going through DFACS (Family and Children Services). There fees are minimal, but the wait can be long because most of the children are in Foster Care.
I did the same thing for our HS. I cleaned our house inside out. She did a quick walk through looking for smoke detectors, fire ext., plug protectors and the like. Didn't even notice that I dusted the fan blades!:D

I am a single AA professional female who has begun the job of adopting. I leave in the Washington DC metro area so there are many many AA children to be adopted. I am hoping to adopt an older AA female and hope to adopt another child in the near future.
I have read that the majority of single adoptive parents tend to adopt older children.:D
I'm a single AA female in CA who adopted a baby girl in June. The experience was exhausting, stressful and wonderful all at once. I am so glad to hear that there are other single AA's out there adopting. I felt like I was the only one!
I'm a single AA woman. I am a self employed full time student. I am interested in the adoption of a newborn or multiples of BR/AA decent (B/G twins would be a dream) ASAP. I live in the Tidewater area of VA. I am too young to adopt through the state so I am looking at private adoption, through an agency or more likely I will just hire a lawyer. I love to see positive black folk in the adoption world :) Right now I'm learning as much as possible and trying to make sure that the agency and prospective BM sees the same wonderful and secure life that I have planned for and envision for the child (ren) I adopt.
harper's mom you said it "I am so glad to hear that there are other single AA's out there adopting. I felt like I was the only one!"
I guess the only thing is there dont seem to be any "young" (under 25) ones :( but hey I guess thats part of how I see that this calling is a special one.
2 questions? 1) how do you all feel about the sex of your first child? 2) do you work or stay home? if you stay home then work, how long did you take off? if you just stay home...what outlets do you have? if you just work how do you facilitate bonding?
ok just wanted to say hi...sorry for rambling...
I am a single adoptive mom of a 1 1/2 year old little girl.. I am white but my daughter is AA.. I would love to be able to share my experience with others who are adopting children who are single.. I would also love to chat with anyone who is a single adoptive parent...

Hi Destiny,
I am also a single parent, hope to be soon adopting my almost 3yr. old foster daughter. I am cauc. she is AA. Before I found this adoption forum, I thought I was the only one single and wanting to adopt- silly me. Anne:)
so how come everyone seems to want a little girl? dont get me wrong i think little girls are precious and can't wait to raise a daighter...my best friend and play daughter is 10 and i have spoiled her since day 1 but what about the boys? as a single woman i am having a real conflict with saying i only want 1 sex. I can imagine both and will love and cherish whatever God gives me but i just kind of wonder y people, especially singles, tend to want a girl? or is it just b/c thats what u were blessed with?
i am open to all opions
i am glad we are developing this thread
i just want to say...it is so special to choose to be a mommy and to do it alone i think thats cool too
