2001-2002 international adoption question

Holt International Children's Services states on a webpage that adoption expenses prior to 2002 for international adoptions qualify for the $10,000 tax credit. We adopted a child in 2001 (with more than ten grand of expenses in that year), finalized in 2002, and it's a $5,000 question for us! Thanks in advance to anyone who answers this. Kevin
