Why do people feel the need to start numerous threads with exactly the same information over and over again on every forum? If someone is searching why not start a thread in the forum "Search for Birthfamily or Adoptee"? If you know the state, fine - post in that state. There is no need to post in every state forum, and upteen other forums. All threads from different forums show up on the "Search Results". Far better to post once every couple days on the "Search for" forum and list all info in thread subject, dob, state, sex (if child) then to post 18 times in a row at once.
Really do not understand what someone thinks they are accomplishing. See it often enough to be annoying.
What am I missing?

Guess I missed Susans original post so I'm not sure what was going on there.
emm - I've thought about sending a pm but since I'm not a modertor it's really not my place. I have reported this a couple times to the moderators and they have deleted most of the repeats. One time I reported 23 repetitive threads on two pages of the "Forum Search" and received a thank you email back telling me that the exact same information was actually posted FORTY times on the forum. Moderator said 3-5 was acceptable as there may be a couple applicable forums but more than that was overkill.
Hopefully our keeping this thread "up-front" will get the message out. Unless, like I said in the beginning there's something I'm missing.

I think it might be a good idea to put a help thread together. If you have never used a forum like this before it can be a bit confusing. I used belong to a forum about Boxer Dogs so I kind of had an idea how it worked. Dogs and adoption not quite the same :p
Maybe it should be a new section on the main page.
"Getting Started in the forum". What do you think?
Emm,
What a great idea. I've only been around this site since Jan and I'm sure I've made a few irritating mistakes myself. I'm just now beginning to get the hang of it. I'm still confused about the new threads. Do people re-enter their info everyday? My info: I'm an adoptee born 4/10/64 in Greensburg Indiana looking for any birth family. That's usually how I spread the word. Just tag it on to replies. Is that ok or irritating. I'm asking seriously.
Thanks for the info guys,
Beth
Hi Beth,
Well I don't see how your duplicate posts could be irritating;) You seem to have added your posts in the right place.
Search and Reunion, reasons for searching and Born or adopted in 1964.
I have a suggestion to make to you.
When you sign in to the forum you can click on "private messages" which takes you to your user control panel. Under the heading "edit profile" there is a box where you can add a signature. If I were you I would type in something like-
born: Greenburg, Indianna - 10/4/64 I.S.O. birthfamily or siblings.
then everytime you post that message will come under your name. So you will not have to repeat yourself. Good luck with your search. You can PM me anytime.

I think a "How to get started" or "How to best use this forum" page is a great idea. I have no understanding how to set that up.
This is the first chat type forum I have been involved in. I have had others pmessage me asking questions about how to do things so I'm sure it would be beneficial to all.
I personally believe the people that are doing the multiple repetitive postings think they are serving a positive result and do not mean to be irritating - my reason for wanting to stop it is twofold. First, it is annoying to scroll through and secondly, it is serving no purpose. They apparently don't realize that they are posting the same information in the same place because they think they are posting it in different places. They are not. It all ends up in the same place - the "Search Results" page.
I personally posted 2 threads, one in NEW YORK and one in BORN IN 1964.
My reasoning is this: Any sibling, or possibly the birth father may not know for sure what year or state I was born in. My birthmother went "away" to a home for unwed mothers, so the secrecy of all that could make it difficult for someone searching for ME. I certainly hope at least my birthmother knows my birthday and the State I was born in - but that may not be true for anyone else.
Just wanted to increase the visibility of my information in hopes that I can end this painful and anxious search.
The way you posted, in two applicable forums, makes complete sense. Someone posting in any number of applicable forums makes sense. Some just post on every forum available with no possible connection to that forum other than it's there to post on.
The point I was trying to make is people posting on 18-40 forums
on this site all end up on the "Search Results" page. They probably feel that they have accomplished this far reaching visibility but they have not. I think it's sad that they misunderstand.
Hello allOn adoptionforums.com home page, scroll down to Community Centre - click, scroll down to @adoption.com - under this heading is Community director forum - click on the heading. Hi Lewey:Hope you are doing well. Here is the post that you made through the "report this to the moderator link:"This is the reason that the user gave:> Hi, I'm Lewey, I'm reporting myself, but I think someone should step in and say how many post are allowed, I personally feel that you should be able to post are any board, especially if you are searching, you don't know if some has moved, a birthdate has been changed or what, but I think clarification is needed, many people do not understand the board when they first start and many people are desperate to find their Loved ones and feel it is better to post on all the boards.> > Thank you LeweyThat request of your reporting yourself on the link that is to remove posts was the request that caused the removal of your post. (How is that for confusing LOL.) (We have e-mailed each other since and you mentioned that you had typed so fast you had not realized that you reported yourself!) :) Thank you for your suggestion for the forums. There are three areas to post for searching. For all other types of posts the maximum seems to be four posts. As four would allow enough visibility without being overwhelming towards others on the forums. If you have other questions on how to use the various functions of the forums please feel free to ask me.If you wish to help Emm with her gathering of tips you are welcome to do that as well! :)I am thankful for all your postive input and help towards others on the forums. Thank you for your caring hearts. If anyone interested in an e-mail discussion group that comes right in to your home e-mail box there are some lists now being formed.Best to each of you.Warm regards,Sabra CossentineCommunity Director

Thank you for the information. I agree, a maximum of four threads on different forums is quite reasonable allowing good exposure in a variety of forums without overwhelming others. Also, as I said earlier, I think people just don't realize that they are not getting the broad exposure that they think they are getting.
Thanks for the clarifications.
