I live in Florida and I have a friend in another state who is 4 months pregnant and unable to keep the baby. I am unable to have children so I am inquiring about how I might go about getting custody of her child. I have her consent but that's obviously not enough, where and how would I go about starting the legal process? or is this even possible?
If you have any advice please email me...

My advice would be to go to an attorney that specializes in adoption. Your friend should probably have her own attorney as well. Be careful, sometimes friendships can go awry when you get this personally involved. The role that she will play in the childs life need to be fully explored and understood by both of you.
Best of Luck.

Feel free to e-mail me pfraas@msn.com. I am an adoption professtional and will be happy to give you advice. I only do home studies, not adoptions so I won't be trying to sell you on a specific agency or anything. It is very possible for you to adopt this baby. It is best if you adopt the child straight off instead of obtaining custody first. The new Florida adoption laws (which changed as of monday) are wonderful.
