Thanks for the welcome Emm. I'm actually in the process of jumping through all the hoops now. I have received non identifying stuff and have recently just received the great cash grab letter. Do you know the one? To paraphrase 'yes we have your records they are sitting a mere 20 feet away from us but you might not be emotionally ready to see them. So send us $400 now withing 30 days and w might get back to you within the next 2 years... Anyways, that's my way of dealing with it all a little humour.

Dbaillie,
I am new to all this myself so I dont know all the scams, be guided by your instincts when people ask you for money. ItҒs really sick to think you have to pay for information about your self or genealogy. One thing I have learned about adoption is that there are many genuine people offering help unfortunately there is an equal amount of people just out to make money and they dont care who gets hurt. What kind of information are these money grabbers holding on to? Searching is a time consuming and painful experience. Making contact once you find the missing person can also be painful, have you prepared your self emotionally for the journey into the unknown? Well placed humour is always healthy but can camouflage pain. I know it, do it all the time, it got me through many hard emotions. If you are interested I can send you a list of reading material.
Good luck et bon courage,
emm
