Adoptee Caucus for Truth (ACT) Urges You to Get Involved:
WRITE AND CALL MISSOURI SENATE COMMITTEE MEMBERS TO VOTE "YES" ON SB 322.
OPEN ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATES TO ADULT ADOPTEES
Hearings on SB 322 is scheduled for this Monday, February 24th before The Financial and Governmental Organization, Veterans' Affairs & Election Committee. Act immediately. Send e-mail in support of this bill as written. SB 322 seeks adult adoptee access, over the age of 18, to their original birth certificate in the same way as non-adopted adults in Missouri.
SB 322 is not about search or medical records. Please stress that the bill is about adults' rights to their own government held documents. It would be helpful to let the senators know how you are tied to adoption. It is important that birthmothers write letting the committee know that privacy is not the issue and that no written promise was ever made to them. Adoptive parents should inform the committee that they support SB 322 because they believe that adult adoptees should not be treated differently from anyone else in needing parental consent to access their own
information.

MY SAMPLE LETTER RE: SB 322 (For your reference)
Honorable Statesmen,
As an adult adoptee I support SB 322 and hope you will recognize it as a means of correcting the inequality between adoptees and non adoptees. Adult adoptees have the write to possess any documents pertaining to them held by the government.
There is no "right to privacy" issue at risk here. Birth mothers were never promised lifelong secrecy nor were they informed that the adoptee's original birth certificate would be sealed away and replaced with an amended birth certificate which would imply that the adoptive parent gave birth to the adoptee. It is time for this outrageous cover up to end.
The fact that a privacy issue is NOT involved is evidenced when you consider that an orphan who is never adopted, and matures through the foster care system, retains their original birth identity. This orphan never has their original birth certificate sealed. The birthmother's legal connection to the child ends before any adoption proceeding takes place. Therefore, there is no promise of secrecy since in most cases the child's fate within the adoption system is uncertain.
The sealing of the birth certificate always takes place AFTER the child is adopted. It is a mechanism to reassure the adoptive parent that they will be the only parent in the adoptee's life. It is a customer service tool, that assumes an adoptee will remain a child forever; absent of civil rights, equality, true sense of origin and genetic needs.
Please vote "YES" for SB 322.
Sincerely,
Ray Buffer
