My little one just turned five. She is potty trained, but during the day if she is with friends or a park will just pee in her pants instead of asking where the potty is. I asked why and she is embarassed to ask in front of others. Also at night I get her up a couple times at night to go to the bathroom. She still sometimes pees in the bed even when I get her up, and when I dont it is a for sure thing that she will pee.. What do I do?
I understand where you are coming from! My daughter was doing the same thing... not that frequently, but still enough to bug me. She would get so busy playing that she would actually forget to use the bathroom until the last minute and then she was unable to hold it or would rush to the bathroom and start peeing before she had her pants all the way down. Now that she is almost 6, she is doing so much better. No daytime accidents in many, many months... probably not since the summer. Same goes for night-time accidents. I limit her drinks in the afternoon after she gets home from school and she uses the bathroom before she goes to bed at 8-8:30, and then I take her again before I go to bed around 10-10:30. She hasn't had any bed-wetting problems in ages.
All I can suggest is to just give it more time. I know that is hard to hear, but I think that some kids just have a harder time feeling that sensation of having to use the bathroom, and the more you hound them, the more paraniod or embarrassed they get.
Sometimes if I know my daughter is busy playing and I'm afraid that she is ignoring the signs, I'll make a game out of it and tell her that we'll both try to use the bathroom and see who wins. The one who can pee is a princess, and the other person is a rotten egg, etc. I've also tried telling her that I'll give her a quarter if she goes to the bathroom and then she'll give me a quarter if I go. I know it sounds silly, but hey...it works!
