Hello-my name is Brenda and I an considering petioning the court to try to open my adoption sealed records. I was wondering if anyone reading this has done that and what the outcome was. I have a lot of information to go on about doing it but I guess I need a little bit more support (it's kinda scary) This would of course be in Saint Louis, Missouri if not understood. Any info would be appreciated. Also I was born 11/22/1970 in St. Louis City, MO at City Hospital #1. Thanks for taking the time to read my thread. God Bless everyone in their searches.
In Christ's Name,
Brenda

Hello Brenda, I too am an adoptee from STL. I petitioned the courts in 2000 for my info. They sent my request to the agency I was adopted through (STL county DFS). They in turn sent a form to my adoptive parents to sign and have notarized stating they were ok with me wanting the info. About 30 days later, I received a 12 page "story" on everything that was in my file (names mot included). I call it the story of me. DFS also began searching for my birthparents. They said in order to give me my birthparents names, BOTH birthparents have to give their consent to release the identifying info. That's where my journey hit a brick wall. My birthmother apparently left Missouri shortly after my birth in 1972 and also married. So, they told me they couldn't find her...translation...they didn't want to take the time to try. They also informed me that they couldn't find my father since he had been released from prison in 95 (lovely man). Needless to say, they wouldn't give my any other info leading to their identities. The only thing additional DFS said was that both my birthparents had extremely common names making it near impossible to find them. In those days SSN was not required in the file. SOOOO.....I heard about this website and registered here as well as the Missouri state registry. A woman on this website has access to unaltered birthrecords in Missouri for the 1970s. She emailed me out of the blue one day stating that she had found my birthmom. It was accurate info and I have contacted her. Unfortunately, it didn't go well. She moved on with her life and hasn't told her husbnad or children of my existence. So, I will never get the chance to thank her properly for making such a selfless sacrifice. You can email me privately and I will give you my searchangel's email address. Good luck with your seach!

I am 53 years old, was adopted in 1953 at the near age of 3 years. I FOUND my birth parents in 1967 at the age of 16 years...and THIS is HOW I did it!
CHECK with the newspaper IN the city of BIRTH. ASK about birth annoucements for the DATE of YOUR Birth...SPECIFY your gender.
Now, this may not work for everyone...if you were adopted AT birth!
ANOTHER route...WRITE a letter to the EDITOR of the LOCAL newspaper in the city of BIRTH. Tell them your story, BE AS SPECIFIC with information as you can. ASK the editor if they will run your story. THIS way...SOMEONE is bound to see YOUR story that MAY have the leads you need.
In my case, my FOSTER MOTHER that I had BEFORE I was adopted, saw MY STORY, and took it to my brother! It took my brother SIX MONTHS to send ME a letter...but, it CAME.
From one who has 'Been THERE, Done THAT'...BRACE your heart for disappointment! NOT ALL 'reunions' are HAPPY! MINE was NOT! But, I do NOT regret finding the ANSWERS!
MY fight NOW, is getting MY adoption records UNsealed! Florida is giving me the run-a-round of my life...but THAT is a DIFFERENT story!
GOD Bless ALL, in WHATEVER 'mission' you are bound!
